Involutions, Trace Maps, and Pseudorandom Numbers
Interesting properties of the partitions of a finite field Fq induced by the combination of involutions and trace maps are studied. The special features of involutions of the form u z , u being a fixed element of Fq, are exploited to generate pseudorandom numbers, the randomness resting on the uniform distribution of the images of zero-trace elements among the sets of non-zero trace elements of...
متن کاملBroué-Enguehard maps and Atkin-Lehner involutions
Let ` be one of the ten integers such that the sum of their divisors divide 24. For each such `, (except 15) we give a map from an algebra of polynomial invariants of some finite group to the algebra of modular forms invariant under the Atkin–Lehner group of level `. These maps are motivated and inspired by constructions of modular lattices from self-dual codes over rings. This work generalizes...
متن کاملFixed Point Free Involutions and Equivariant Maps
1. Preliminaries. We are concerned with involutions without fixed points, together with equivariant maps connecting such involutions. An involution T is a homeomorphism of period 2 of a Hausdorff space X onto itself; that is, T(x) = x for all x £ X . There is associated with an involution T on X the orbit space X/T, obtained by identifying x with T(x) for all x G Z . Denote by v\ X—+X/T the dec...
متن کاملReversible maps and composites of involutions in groups of piecewise linear homeomorphisms of the real line
An element of a group is reversible if it is conjugate to its own inverse, and it is strongly reversible if it is conjugate to its inverse by an involution. A group element is strongly reversible if and only if it can be expressed as a composite of two involutions. In this paper the reversible maps, the strongly reversible maps, and those maps that can be expressed as a composite of involutions...
متن کاملAntipodes and involutions
If H is a connected, graded Hopf algebra, then Takeuchi’s formula can be used to compute its antipode. However, there is usually massive cancellation in the result. We show how sign-reversing involutions can sometimes be used to obtain cancellationfree formulas. We apply this idea to the Hopf algebras of polynomials, graphs, and noncommutative symmetric functions.
